US Special Envoy Visits Colombo Port to Strengthen Economic Cooperation.
The Sergio Gor, the United States Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, visited the Port of Colombo on Thursday to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral economic cooperation between the United States and Sri Lanka.
During the visit, the envoy held discussions with Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman Parakrama Dissanayake and senior officials regarding strategies to improve port modernization, infrastructure expansion, and operational efficiency.
The meeting placed special emphasis on unlocking the strategic potential of the Port of Colombo as a major regional maritime hub. Discussions also highlighted opportunities for increased private-sector participation and the importance of strengthening regulatory frameworks to support long-term sustainable economic growth.
Following the discussions, Envoy Gor conducted an on-site inspection tour of port facilities in Colombo, where he observed ongoing development projects and operational systems firsthand.
The visit provided valuable insight into the Sri Lanka Ports Authority’s modernization initiatives, while identifying potential areas for future collaboration between Sri Lanka and the United States in maritime infrastructure and logistics development.
