Couple Killed, Seven Injured in Girandurukotte Cab–Tractor Collision

A tragic road accident in the 3rd Mile Post area of Girandurukotte has claimed the lives of two passengers and injured seven others after a cab collided with a tractor, police confirmed on Saturday. According to police reports, the victims were a 57-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman from Mahiyanganaya. They were among 13 passengers traveling in the cab at the time of the collision.

Authorities stated that the crash occurred when the cab struck a tractor along the Girandurukotte roadway. Emergency responders quickly transported the injured passengers and the tractor driver to Mahiyanganaya Hospital for medical treatment. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials urged motorists to exercise caution, especially on rural roads where visibility and traffic conditions can change rapidly. Road safety experts continue to stress the importance of responsible driving practices to reduce accidents across regional transport routes in Sri Lanka.

Man Arrested with 1,750 Litres of Illegal Fuel in Kilinochchi.

Police officers arrested a suspect after seizing 1,220 litres of petrol and 530 litres of diesel hidden illegally in the Kalmadunagar area under the Kilinochchi Ramanathapuram Police Division.

The Ramanathapuram Police carried out the raid after receiving confidential intelligence information about illegal fuel storage in the area. During the operation, officers discovered the hidden fuel stock and immediately confiscated it.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect stored the fuel without legal authorization, violating fuel distribution regulations. As a result, officers arrested the individual at the scene for further investigation.

Police stated that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspect had links to organized fuel hoarding or illegal distribution networks in the region.

Officials also warned that illegal fuel storage creates serious safety risks and negatively affects the country’s regulated fuel supply system. Therefore, police continue to strengthen monitoring operations to prevent similar incidents.
