Muslims across Sri Lanka perform Eid al-Fitr prayers.

Colombo, 21 March 2026 – Muslims across Sri Lanka celebrated Eid al-Fitr today, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan with nationwide festivities and congregational prayers.

In the Eastern Province, special Eid prayers were held in various locations, including Maruthamunai, where the event at Darul Huda Women’s Islamic Arab College was led by Principal M.L.M. Mubarak Madani. He conducted the prayers and delivered an inspiring sermon to the attendees. Thousands of men and women participated in the prayers at the Kalmune city limits, demonstrating the strong community participation.

Similarly, Eid al-Fitr prayers were observed in other Muslim-populated areas such as Narpittimunai, Kalmune, Sammanturai, Nintavur, Akkaraipattu, and Pottuvil, with large gatherings reported across these regions.

Community leaders emphasized the importance of unity, compassion, and reflection during the festival, as families and communities came together to celebrate the conclusion of Ramadan.

The celebrations highlighted the vibrant cultural and religious traditions of Sri Lanka’s Muslim community, bringing together thousands of participants in shared prayer and festive spirit.
